WELCOME TO KUNDALINI YOGA !
-as taught by Yogi Bhajan

"There are twenty-two forms of yoga and they all lead to one thing:

RAISING THE KUNDALINI. The purpose of raising the Kundalini is not that we start flying in the air and all those gimmicks. When the Kundalini is raised, a person is super alert to everything. One becomes an acknowledged human being in every field of life one touches." -Yogi Bhajan

KUNDALINI comes from the Indian word "Kundal", which means "lock of hair from the beloved." It's a vast reservoir of untapped kundalini stored under the 4th vertebra of the spinal column. The uncoiling of this "hair" is the awakening of the kundalini, the creative potential energy and allowed to rise up the central column of the spine (Shushmana) until it reaches the top of the skull, activating the secretion of the pineal gland. One of the major functions of the pineal gland is to vibrate and control the nucleus projection of every cell of the body.

One experiences major change of consciousness when secretion of pineal gland changes. One will feel extremely effective, productive, grounded, intuitive, creative and energetic.

Kundalini Yoga is specifically designed to work on the entire nervous and glandular systems, thereby slowing down the aging process, improving overall health and vitality and increasing mental well being.

"Kundalini Yoga is for the householder. It allows us to marry and have children. You can take the pressures in your life absolutely nicely and still be young, beautiful, healthy, and able to keep going. It is a very day-today living experience. With all our mistakes and with all our weaknesses, still we can make ourselves healthy, happy, and holy. That is the purpose." -Yogi Bhajan

What are the differences between Kundalini Yoga and Hatha Yoga?
Classical Yoga like Hatha Yoga emphasis on Asana or postures.
Hatha Yoga has 84 postures, 24 mudras and 3 Maha Mudras along with Breath Control. Kundalini Yoga is an emanation of unlimited Kriyas which have prescribed in sequences for specific effects. There are some postures and mudras in Kundalini Yoga are not found in Hatha Yoga. It's because of the vast legacy of advance practice that used to be a secret but now is shared by Yogi Bhajan.
Originally, Classical Yoga was intended for monks, yogis and those who withdrew from the world for spiritual practice. Kundalini Yoga was designed for the householders who have families and jobs to take care of but need to find the balance with their inner and outer world.

Who is Yogi Bhajan?

Can I learn Kundalini Yoga from a book or video without attending a class?
For the beginners, it's important to have a KRI (Kundalini Research Institute)Certified Teacher to guide and lead you to experience the best benefits of Kundalini Yoga. Since all Kriyas are prescribled in a sequence for a specific effect, any change or misunderstanding could be harmful instead of beneficial.

To learn Kundalini Yoga, do I need to be physically fit and flexible?
On the contrary, Kundalini Yoga will lead you to be more physically fit and flexible no matter how old or young you are, how good or bad your health condition is. To keep up with the well being both physically and mentally is the goal. There is no competition in Kundalini Yoga. Everyone listens to one's own body and practices Kundalini Yoga at one's own pace.
